I dont consider myself a professional photographer
Hello, I'm Iain
Hi, I’m Iain – a photographer based near London, United Kingdom.
I don’t consider myself a professional photographer, nor do I aspire to be one. What I am is a time-poor but enthusiastic hobbyist, passionate about the creative possibilities photography offers me. My chosen genres are street and portrait photography.
I’ve always been creative, but I didn’t properly pick up a camera until my early 40s. I originally started with landscapes, but I quickly realised it wasn’t for me — I just couldn’t find many interesting locations without having to travel long distances.
My passion for street photography was ignited when I was given the book 100 Great Street Photographs by David Gibson. I couldn’t quite believe there was a genre dedicated to capturing everyday life unfolding on the street. I became fixated on learning all I could about the different styles — documentary, candid, abstract, and even street portraiture, to name a few.
People often ask me, “How would you describe your style?” My honest answer is: “I don’t know.” I’m still finding it — and I’m not sure I ever fully will. If I had to commit to something, I’d say my work is leaning more towards low-light/night abstract and candid photography as my journey continues.
Either way, I’m having an absolute blast — and I’m genuinely grateful you’ve taken the time to check out my site and join me on this creative journey. Feel free to reach out if you’d like to connect, collaborate, or just chat about photography.
